In the wake of today run-off elections, there was a violent incident in West Point just around the time of the ballots counting.
According to the township dwellers that I speak with, the police asked them to go indoors as they arrived to collect the ballot boxes, when they refused on grounds that they were not under curfew, the police begin to shoot tear gas at them.
When I contacted the local police station in the Township, an office who told me that he was not the police spokesman admitted that he called the ERU and tear gas was fired. He further said, it all started when some group of persons begin to throw stones that got the female Police Officer assigned to the station severely hurt, in an attempt to forcefully steal away the ballot boxes, that was when the Police came in and fire tear gas to disbursed the crowd. He however said that the Police officer that was hurt during the throwing of stones is at JFK taking treatment.
We arrived at West Point about two hours after the incident and all was calm and that people were going about their normal business.
